C-Jags - Sandy

If they have luck on their side you’re likely to hear a lot of this song in the next few months.
It starts off with a kind of Billy Holiday phrased vocal intro but soon zips into an indie club/rock club dance floor smash which has an infectious offbeat, made more interesting by avoiding the cliché sounds that the ska purists reach for.
Singer, Paul Van Oestren, is a cut above most of the pack and the production does a good job of keeping his rich voical separate from the rest of the music. The song’s interesting because even at the fairly nippy tempo you could put the vocal next to a piano track and get a rousing singer-songwriter feel and I think it’s the contrast that makes it stand out.
