The Displacements - Down & Out

“The love-battered romance of a mid-teen Morrissey, the flat-capped indie twinkle of The Housemartins” NME
“Like Mick and Keith uniting over Chuck Berry LPs as schoolboys, young wags Andy Stone and Nick Eversfield found themselves bonding first over a Clash badge. 2008 heralds big things for Leicester’s finest” Clash Magazine.
The Displacements are back with their huge new single ‘Down and Out’ released on the legendary Stiff records. The four youngsters from Leicester are looking and sounding more confident than ever before, and have lost none of their crowd pleasing big chants and pop hooks. The new single, recorded by Barny Barnicott (The Enemy, Kasabian) sums up the aftermath of hedonism. “Now you’re down and out, you’ve been messed around and even your close friends have no time for you now”. The lyrics may not be upbeat, but armed with jangly guitars and the most catchy of melodies, the band turn this sad tale into jubilant, sunny pop reminiscent of The Smiths at their finest.
Made up of two brothers and their two friends and formed over three years ago, Andy, Nick Joe and James picked up instruments and taught themselves to play together, in the front room of the brothers’ house. Not just any house mind - a house with a P.A, musical parents and lots of old records which the boys spent 24 hours a day consuming. Proactive being their collective middle name, it wasn’t long before the band started running their own sold-out club night in Leicester. Embracing the true spirit of rock’n’roll, the four borrowed money, bought a van and started to storm the country on tour.
Since then, the band have sold 3,000 ltd singles to an ever growing audience and gained a huge fan base from their touring last year - which consisted of a whopping 150 shows all over the country and abroad. Now, with their MySpace plays hitting four figure numbers daily, people in the UK and beyond are really catching onto The Displacements as a band to believe in.
The band have just completed touring on 23 shows as main supports with The Enemy, The Twang, and The Courteeners playing to 33,000 people. Currently on the Levi’s Ones to Watch Tour, the boys have a string of UK Summer shows for 2008- including supporting Pete and the Pirates, The Ting Tings and The Holloways as well as festival slots at the Great Escape and Sound City Festival.
