Bryan Adams – 11

Crater faced Canadian born artist Bryan Adams is set to release his eleventh studio album, which by some strange coincidence is titled eleven. Not forgetting that minus the bonus track there are actually eleven songs on the album which is surely now getting too much to be a coincidence, maybe it is time to call Evett Fielding and gang to come and investigate and paranormal goings on in the studios of Bryan Adams?

It is hard to believe that we has stomached the same husky vocals for ten previous albums before the release of this one, but it just goes to show that if you can get away with it then why stop?

It seems to me that this is an album for the real Bryan Adams fan and won’t really do too much in the way of getting others interested in his music. Don’t get me wrong he has been, there, seen it, made the t-shirt never mind got the t-shirt, but sometimes there does come a time when things just dry up, and the ideas and inspirations no longer appear as they once did.

The thing that really sticks out is that there actually isn’t a track on the album that shines above the rest. Listening to the album you wouldn’t be able to pick a Single from it certainly. A lot of this album just seems middle of the road and tracks such as ‘Oxygen’ feel like it has been put there to make up the album.

On ‘I Thought I’d Seen Everything’ at time you sense that Bryan Adams is really forcing his vocals and shouting at times, it’s quite saddening really. ‘Somethin’ To Believe In’ just seems like the guy who is doing his eleventh album has forgotten what a great life he really has and his only worry really is getting the odd bad music review. This song just seems like he is being a hypercritic git really.

Finishing up with the “Bonus track” I must say is not much of a bonus, lyrics going on about the war don’t know what were fighting for. So easy to get hung up into an argument about this but all I will say is it is just political. Leave the politics to the politicians OR Bono? Either way just leave it.

There is no denying that Bryan Adams has released some great records and entertained over the years, but in the shape of this new album maybe it is a sign to reach for the old pipe and slippers, sit back relax and call it a day.

3/10
