You Me At Six – Hold Me Down

You Me At Six have come a long way since their days of touring the UK on the Megabus, far enough for us to have expectations of their new album.
Hold Me Down is the second album from the British rock band, and has already shot to number five in the chart.
Deserving of this achievement? I’m not so sure.
If you like slightly americanised teen rock, then yes I can believe that you will buy this, and quite clearly you have. I can imagine a lot of the tracks featuring heavily on a soundtrack from something like The OC.
Tracks are quite similar, and a bit whiny at points, but overall not offensive and quite likeable. They’re well written and will be a hit with the target audience, and current fans. I’m not sure I’d be totally converted to them by this offering though. Personally, the last album was stronger.
A bit confused as to where the influences come from, you find one track sounding like a lighter version of Muse, and the next swaying towards McFly. The strongest tracks have to be ‘Liquid Confidence’ (which I’m sure I’ve heard the general backing track to before, but that’s nothing new), and ‘The Consequence’, purely because they have a hook where many of the other s lack one strong enough.
It’s not often that the drum beat stands out enough for me to mention, but this is an exception. The beat on most tracks is loud and infectious enough to find me drumming on the table with my fingers. You have been warned!
7/10
