Eight Legs – The Electric Kool-Aid Cuckoo Nest

On the cover the members of Eight Legs are stood in the middle of a London street dressed as some sort of ‘banana splits’ knockoffs; seeing the cover it was hard to know what to expect, would this be some sort of anti-Gorillaz album?

Sadly not, there’s little social commentary here, although on tracks such as ‘Just So You Know’ they do share a passing resemblance to Billy Bragg, but that’s not quite what I meant; there’s a lack of lyrical prowess!

There are highs, the opener ‘I Understand’ sounds like a jangly interpretation of The Dandy Warhols ‘Not If you Were The Last Junky On Earth’ unfortunately, it’s where the band peak; on track one. Oh dear!

There are other half decent tacks on the album, but none really jump out at you; take ‘Best of Me’ it’s good, but it sounds like across between The Strokes and The Libertines! In fact it has to be said that hiding behind costumes and sound-tracking anti-binge drinking ads is hardly selling the rock’n’roll lifestyle! (At least Albans animated band mates are still suitably crass!)

Eight Legs? Well I suppose there’s four of them in the band; which begs the question that if they jettison a member would they become six legs?
