1913 - Atlantis

When I heard the name of the group and their title for their latest single ‘Atlantis’ It did raise a curious smile whilst pondering if the band had deliberately chosen their name and the title of the single as a link to the film called Atlantis which ironically was released in 1913. This film caused a bit of controversy because it had an ocean liner sink after hitting an object at sea. This was released a year after the Titanic sank and was subsequently banned in a few countries.

Regardless of the bands name being coincidental or an intellectual joke, 1913’s latest single entitled ‘Atlantis’ is one of those tracks that has radio friendly qualities which can sometimes become a curse, Nickelbacks ‘How You Remind Me’ is a prime example of a song which was a good song until it was played to death on radio. I feel that ‘Atlantis’ may suffer with the same fate.

For those of you who like musical comparisons, musically I would have to say if you can imagine Keane being talented then you would have some idea of what 1913 sound like musically. The vocals are perfectly suited to this melodic music, it’s not an overpowering voice but is good enough to stand out from most other bands.

‘Atlantis’ is one of my favourite singles so far this year, and should gain 1913 a few more fans. This could be just the tip of the iceberg!
