Sarah Jezebel Deva – A Sign of Sublime

Sarah Jezebel Deva will be know to a lot of people as the backing vocalist for Cradle of Filth. She appeared on numerous albums and tours, and has also worked with other metal bands ranging from the operatic power metal of Therion through to the electro goth of Mortiis.
This is her first solo album and uses her 4 octave vocal range to the full. A Sign of Sublime is the first proper track and also the first single. Sound-wise it is a cross between the black metal musical stylings of Cradle Of Filth with the operatic bombardment of Nightwish. The album as a whole mixes between these style of bombastic metal tracks, and songs like The Devil's Opera and Daddy's Not Coming Home, which are sweeping, soaring tracks worthy of any soundtrack.
There has never been any doubt of her vocal talents, but many band members when they have tried to stand alone have fallen flat on their face. I think that won't happen, whilst this is her first major solo release, her exposure through other bands means that with good songs here and more than enough talent, I'm sure her following will grow. If you like operatic and power metal then this is certainly for you, even if it is not, there is more than enough for the casual listener.
9/10
