THE REGULARS – This Is The Sound (single)
Posted by claire on Friday, January 4, 2002
“There are those who would like you to believe that a certain kind of pop music doesn’t exist any more, or that nobody wants to hear it,” says The Regulars singer Pete, “I believed them for far too long, and formed The Regulars expecting nothing. I wrote ‘This Is The Sound’ when I found out they were wrong.” And so it is that ‘This Is The Sound’ is a gem of a pop song, not perfect by any means, but its winding guitar line and urgent call leap out of the speakers with a passion and delight that is has been rarely seen in the era of Waterman and Fuller. ‘This Is The Sound’ makes you want to dance, but not in a mechanical choreographed style wearing the latest high street fashions, just move in any way it seems natural. B-side ‘Lincolnshire Skies’ is another slice of addictive melody glued together with a chorus full of rousing hope and triumph. The Beatles were pop, The Ramones were pop, Nirvana were pop and now The Regulars are pop. This is the sound that we’ve looked forward to.
