VENDETTA RED – Cut Your Noose EP
Posted by AlMachine on Thursday, November 7, 2002

Aha! What do we have here then? NME darlings with two minute songs and not a hint of pretentiousness? “Vendetta Red is the dismemberment of all things sacred and serene. Kiss your wife and kids because tomorrow everything dies,” says singer Zach Davidson. Hmm!

First track “Three Chord Valentine” is a sub standard Wildhearts or Feeder song featuring average riffs and an average melody. Sure it sounds catchy but guys, you’re going to need to try harder! Although things suddenly change round on the second track “Por Vida” with growled shouty vocals and a rolling cantering beat, although it scares the living crap out of me because it resembles something what the atrocious Defenestration would put out! Although this is a bit more interesting and the NME crowd will probably give them props but personally it does nothing for me.

And lo! Third track “All Cried Out” suddenly turns into something Weezer would churn out! YE GODS!

Finally they end on the gentle acoustic led “The White Nightmare”, and again like the rest of the songs on this EP there’s not much to it, with this one being a few simple chords arranged with a repetitive lick so simple it makes you want to grab the acoustic guitars off them and smash them round the heads for being pretentious twats!

Guys, guys, guys… go back to the drawing board and write something a bit more in depth and err, generally better before you release your debut album. I can’t help but think this has been a waste of mine, theirs and everybody else’s time.
