Alabama 3 – Reachin’
Posted by AlMachine on Thursday, February 13, 2003
With soft drum loops, Southern soaked organs filling out the background, subtle guitar and harmonica work and softly spoken gravely vocals which has seen probably too many cigarettes and whiskeys in its time - this is trying to be the epitome of laid-back cool, the sort of thing American gangsters would cruise along listening to in a Quentin Tarantino movie. Nearest reference point is probably Scooby Snacks by the Fun Loving Criminals, but with a heavy deep South bluesy influence with country music overtones. Second track “The River Unbroken” is almost identical similar in style, as is “Don’t Dig Any Deeper Darling” so they’ve definitely found their style and groove and they’re going to stick to their formula – which is an infectious formula I have to admit. This is however not quite music for American good ole’ cowboys because with its computer generated drum loops and samples - its hardly Willy Nelson or Wilson Pickett, but it’s groovy infectious nature should mean they will find some success in today market.
