This SBTRKT gig has been upgraded to Rock City due to a high demand of tickets which means you should buy your ticket as it is going to be one hell of a show!

A self-taught producer, London’s SBTRKT (aka Aaron Jerome) mixes elements of dubstep, 2-step, garage, house, soul, and techno into a bass-heavy blend of flowing melodies and intricate percussion. After years of honing his craft, in 2009 Jerome sent tracks to DJs including BBC Radio 1’s Graeme Sinden and Mary Anne Hobbs, who made singles such as “Nervous” into radio hits. SBTRKT’s remixes for the likes of MIA, Fantastic Mr Fox and Modeselektor helped solidify his reputation, as did his self-released singles Timeless and Right Place. He also issued a pair of singles for the enigmatic Brainmath label, as well as the Break Off/Evening Glow single for Ramp Recordings (featuring Jerome’s frequent vocal collaborator Sampha). Next up were SBTRKT’s ‘Soundboy Shift’ & the ‘Step in Shadows’ EPs on Young Turks, which were followed by his self-titled debut album in 2011. Alongside Sampha, Roses Gabor and Jessie Ware, the album track ‘Wildfire’ features Little Dragon and the imitable voice of Yukimi Nagano. The track became a worldwide hit after catching the ear of U.S star Drake, who made a ‘remix’ of the track featuring a verse from the rapper.

Performing in his trademark tribal mask, watching SBTRKT translate his sound live is opposed to what one would expect from the traditional producer / DJ. “The live show is an expansion of what has been created in the studio and the tools I’ve used to make them. Just because a song has been created with a laptop, it doesn’t mean that is the best way to perform it live, but for me, neither is bringing in a 5 piece band to re-interpret your songs. I see live shows in a very different light to producing in a studio as it’s about translating into a medium for performance. The basic setup is myself on an acoustic drum kit with extra electronic triggers, and Sampha on 2 keyboards and vocals… although it’s constantly developing whilst we learn new ways to perform songs and experiment with new ways to route our live audio.”
