Welcome to the first in our series of “Rock City Sabbath Suggestions” articles, where we give you our current suggested viewing, listening, reading and tipple. We’ll use some of the most common streaming services and online stores for our recommendations, but if you’re not a subscriber to them, I’m sure you’ll find the cultural artefacts in some the more nefarious corners of the internet if you look hard enough!
DOCUMENTARY / OASIS: SUPERSONIC
The story of Britpop legends Oasis from their formation, through their first two ground-breaking albums and up to their enormous headline show at Knebworth in 1996 where more than four per cent of the country applied for tickets! The doc features interviews with both Liam and Noel (not together, naturally) along with the other band members and associates, plus lots of amazing unseen footage.

BOOK / THE DIRT
If you want to find out what being in a real rock’n’roll band was like in the heyday of eighties decadence, drugs and debauchery, then look no further. Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars dish the dirt (ahem) on their life in Motley Crüe, from their formation in LA, to their meteoric rise to fame and the inevitable complications that follow… especially when you’re constantly throwing shit out of hotel windows.

LIVE SHOW / RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
We thought it would be the perfect time to get involved with a classic Rage Against The Machine set, as their comeback shows this summer have been postponed due to you-know-what. This full set was filmed in Dusseldorf back in the year 2000, such a simpler time, and features all the tracks you want: Killing In The Name, Testify, Bulls On Parade, Guerrilla Radio and more.

ALBUM / ENTER SHIKARI: LIVE AT ALEXANDRA PALACE 2
One ray of light we had in the Rock City (home) office this week was the announcement that the mighty Enter Shikari would be playing two dates in our venue this November. We’re pumped. Now, we know they have great new tracks out, which you should obviously listen to, but we wanted that live show vibe so we have opted for their latest live record, a career spanning set, recorded last year at Alexandra Palace.

DRINK / BEAVERTOWN: GAMMA RAY
This tasty American Pale Ale is Beavertown’s signature brew, made in London. Pretentious tasting notes incoming… Fruity, zesty and floral, every kind of hop aroma is there, dominated by the tropical fruit and citrus. The sweet malt background is light enough to let those massive hops shine throughout the beer, especially in the finish when all those heady aromas come back for a rasping dry finish.
