Incite’s thrash battle cry resounds louder than ever on new album, ‘All Out War.’

The group, Richie Cavalera [vocals], Gene Macazan [guitar], Luis Marrufo [bass], and Zak [drums] upped the ante tenfold this time out, honing their patented sound into a tremendously tighter and tougher monster. Featuring production by Logan Mader [Gojira, DevilDriver, Five Finger Death Punch], the record explodes right out of the gate with vicious riffing, intricate leads, and unforgettable hooks. When the album hits stores in November 2012, this War gets underway with a bang.

In 2009, their debut The Slaughter slashed right through heavy metal. Revolver dubbed it, “thrash that’s hard to refuse/resist”, while the single “Army of Darkness” held strong on the Sirius Metal Charts. In its wake, the group massacred crowds across Europe, Canada, Australia and the United States, alongside the likes of Dillinger Escape Plan and Soulfly. No stranger to heavy music, Cavalera grew up within the Soulfly camp. At a mere 12-years-old, he sang “Bleed” on stage with the legendary group during OZZfest 1998 and prior to that, he played in the drum jam of the historical final Sepultura show with Max. Since then, he’s recorded with both Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy. However, on album number two, he and Incite reach the next level altogether.

They didn’t waste any time starting All Out War. As soon as they got off the road in early 2012, they entered a Los Angeles studio with Mader. “It’s got the aggression we’ve always had, but the songs have evolved,” says Cavalera. “The lyrics are far more personal. A lot of the grooves and leads are much crazier. There’s a good balance.”

The evolution remains clear across the entire record. Every element stands out, from Marrufo and Zak’s furious rhythmic attack to the leads and vocals. It’s the last record to feature original guitarist Dis, who left the band in order to become a father. Nevertheless, Macazan brings new ferocity to the table. Throughout everything, Cavalera focused his writing process and truly opened up. “I had a lot of time to myself,” he admits. “Over the last three years with the band and touring, you don’t see your friends and family as much. You start going through personal things, whether they’re financial or otherwise. Things got really hard, and the music became my escape. I got a lot out.” You can hear that loud and clear on the stomping violence of “Hopeless”. The breakdown simply slays as Cavalera screams. “It’s a message to doubters saying, ‘Stick it up your ass’,” smiles the vocalist. “Each song is like a story.”

Album opener “The Aftermath” steamrolls with technical six-string fireworks and a syncopated drum death march. “That’s about the band,” Cavalera goes on. “It’s a statement. When we’re in your town, it’s going to be a great metal show. Then, we leave the aftermath, and drive to destroy the next city.”

As the War rages on, Incite will only destroy even more stages and win countless more faithful in the process. “We’re all fans,” concludes Cavalera. “We’re lucky to live our dream and be a part of it. People need metal because it speaks true to life. We’re never going to hold back, and we hope everyone feels that here.” – Rick Florino
